For 50 years, Dominion of Terror in Sheboygan has been the ultimate destination for Halloween fun, earning its place as the longest-running haunted house in Wisconsin. What started as a small community project by the Sheboygan Jaycees in 1974 has evolved into an annual tradition of nightmares, scaring thousands of visitors each October. Now, as the haunted house marks its half-century milestone, 2024 promises to deliver the most intense, chilling experience yet.
Here’s a look at last year’s haunt:
Run entirely by volunteers, Dominion of Terror is a year-round effort. Each summer, over 20 rooms are torn down and rebuilt, ensuring fresh horrors for the new season. More than 75 volunteers come together every October, not just to scare visitors, but to raise funds for local charities. The haunted house has partnered with RCS Empowers, Inc., a nonprofit supporting individuals with disabilities, for the last 20 years. In gratitude for using their building, Dominion of Terror gives back by to RSC to help fund projects like their Christmas party and theater renovations.
The 50th anniversary comes with special events, starting with Throwback Weekend on October 11th and 12th, where admission is rolled back to $15 at the door—a tribute to earlier years. It’s a rare opportunity to revisit the haunted house’s roots, but the scares remain as terrifying as ever.

For families, the Trick-or-Treat Matinee on October 19th offers a lights-on, no-monster walkthrough, perfect for kids. At just $5 per person, the matinee encourages children to come in costume and includes candy, friendly volunteers, and educational booths supporting the “Don’t Be a Monster” Anti-Bullying campaign. Special guests like the Sheboygan Fire Department will also be on hand.
New for 2024 is a brand new Escape Room featuring a 45-minute challenge where visitors must solve puzzles and riddles to escape before time runs out. For $10 per person, this adds a new layer of suspense and excitement to the already fear-filled experience.
As Dominion of Terror celebrates 50 years, its commitment to both scaring and supporting the community remains stronger than ever. With throwback pricing, family-friendly events, and new attractions, this milestone season is a must for anyone who dares to enter Wisconsin’s longest-running haunted house.
Dominion of Terror opens for the 2024 haunt season on Friday, October 4th. Don’t miss it!
