Big Cheese Drop
520 E Mill St, Plymouth, WI 53073
Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the “Cheese Capital of the World” with the annual Big Cheese Drop at the Plymouth Arts Center. In Times Square they drop a lighted ball to ring in the new year. In Plymouth, WI it’s a giant, glittering wedge of award-winning BellaVitano® Gold cheese from the Sartori Company.
New Year’s festivities include live music, cheese tasting, Sartori cheese gift bags for the first 250 families, complimentary hot cocoa, cash bar, and a warm bon fire.
Between 1918 and 1956, the pricing and standards of cheese throughout the US were set at the National Cheese Exchange located in downtown Plymouth. Known as “Cheeseville” in those days, the town was a hub of cheese manufacturing, storage, and shipping. Today, Plymouth retains its title as the “Cheese Capital of the World” as the home to four major cheese companies: Sargento, Masters Gallery, Sartori, and Great Lakes Cheese.
