What Happened to Dorothy Bell? is a bone-chilling new found-footage horror film from Wisconsin-based filmmaker Danny Villanueva Jr. (of How Bizarre Pictures) and it’s making its Wisconsin premiere at the Milwaukee Film Festival. Filmed on location at the haunted Simmons Library in Kenosha (which is said to have been built over a burial chamber) this locally-made horror dives headfirst into ancestral trauma, ghostly secrets, and a doomed descent into the supernatural.
The story follows Ozzie Gray (played by breakout star Asya Meadows) as she documents her investigation into eerie childhood memories linked to her late grandmother, Dorothy Bell. But when she tries to contact Dorothy’s spirit, what answers she finds come with something else, something malevolent.
Backing up the terror is a powerhouse horror cast, including Lisa Wilcox, the scream queen from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5, and Michael Hargrove from 2021’s Candyman. With a supporting cast of indie horror talent and the real-life haunted halls of one of Wisconsin’s creepiest libraries, Dorothy Bell is a sinister reminder that sometimes those dusty family memories that are better left in the attic.
The film will screen at the historic Oriental Theatre—a fittingly atmospheric venue built in 1927 and known for its lavish, otherworldly decor.
