Standing along the shoreline of Silver Lake in Salem Lakes, Wisconsin, this 19th-century Victorian home (locally known as Oakwood Manor) served as the filming location for the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. Built in 1880, the house was transformed for the film with a custom façade to replicate the infamous “eye-like” windows of the original New York home, with both interior and exterior scenes shot on-site.
While the story portrayed in the film originates in Amityville, the Wisconsin property developed its own eerie reputation during production. Cast and crew reported strange disturbances throughout filming, adding an unexpected layer of real-world unease to an already unsettling story.
Today, the home remains a private residence. Though the movie façade has long since been removed, its connection to one of horror’s most recognizable stories continues to draw curiosity from fans of both film history and the paranormal.
Screen-used items left behind from the production, such as a bed used by Reynolds, the kitchen table, curtains, and windows, were sold at an estate sale in 2017.
