In the wake of the end of The Exclusive Company, a decades-long pillar of Wisconsin’s music scene, a strange new record store emerged in Green Bay. The Green Bay UFO Museum Gift Shop & Records opened in 2022 as both a continuation and mutation of that legacy, founded by former Exclusive Company employee Pierre Jacque and staffed by longtime store manager and local music figure Timebomb Tom Smith. And GBUFO isn’t just a record store, it’s a countercultural refuge built from the fragments of a vanished era of physical media and in-person discovery.
Step inside and the experience feels less like shopping and more like drifting through a curated anomaly. Vinyl records and CDs line the walls, but they’re only part of the story. There’s also a functioning VHS rental section, stacks of toys, action figures, trading cards, and shelves of strange, nostalgic artifacts that blur the line between museum and junk drawer of American pop culture. The space doubles as a DIY venue, hosting live music, listening parties, film screenings, comedy, and offbeat community events, often in an intimate, anything-goes setting that keeps the spirit of underground music alive in Green Bay.
The “UFO Museum” name is half-joke, half-mission statement. It reflects a place that doesn’t quite fit anywhere else, a gathering point for collectors, outsiders, and music obsessives still chasing the tactile experience that streaming erased.
