JFK Prep

The former John F. Kennedy Preparatory School (JFK Prep) in St. Nazianz is one of Wisconsin’s most infamous abandoned landmarks and among its most talked-about allegedly haunted locations. The sprawling campus began as the Salvatorian Seminary, built on land connected to the religious commune established by Father Ambrose Oschwald in the 1850s after he was suspended from his duties in a small parish in the Black Forest of Germany for “mystical, prophetic, and heretical works.” He and his followers came to America, where a “divine white heifer” led them to the land that would become their new home of St. Nazianz.

The present seminary complex dates largely to the late 1930s and later became JFK Prep, a private college-preparatory boarding school that operated from 1968 until its closure in 1982. After decades of vacancy, vandalism, and failed redevelopment efforts, the imposing brick buildings became the focus of countless ghost stories, paranormal investigations, and urban legends that have spread far beyond Manitowoc County.

JFK Prep’s haunted reputation is fueled by both documented history and decades of local folklore. Visitors have long connected the property with legends surrounding Father Oschwald and the early religious settlement, while stories of unexplained deaths, alleged suicides, cursed grounds, and mysterious sealed rooms have become intertwined with the abandoned campus. In 2016, a Manitowoc man made claims in a series of Youtube videos that a secret Satanic sex cult was conducting rituals and communicating with the devil in the basement of JFK Prep.

Today, the former JFK Prep campus remains private property under the ownership of St. Nazianz Christian Center, and unauthorized entry is prohibited. While the abandoned buildings continue to attract photographers, historians, and paranormal enthusiasts, visitors should respect all posted signs and property boundaries.
