Sprecksel Slaughterhouse

Sprecksel Slaughterhouse is a seasonal home haunt in Rhinelander that has been turning a private residence into a Halloween attraction since 2013. Located at 422 Abner Street, the family-run haunt grew from a neighborhood Halloween tradition into a popular Northwoods attraction built with help from friends, family and volunteers. Unlike large commercial haunted houses that run throughout October, Sprecksel Slaughterhouse traditionally operates for a very limited number of nights, making its annual appearance something of a local Halloween event. Themes change from year to year, including 2025’s Neon Nightmares, an ’80s-inspired haunt.

The experience is deliberately split into two levels of terror. Early family-friendly hours give younger visitors a chance to experience the haunt before dark, when actors tone things down and daylight makes the experience less intimidating. Once the sun goes down, however, Sprecksel Slaughterhouse turns up the intensity for teens and adults, with costumed actors, elaborate scenes and the possibility of stairs, uneven ground, flashing lights and even being compelled to run. Past editions have included zombie-apocalypse themes, while proceeds or donations have supported local causes such as the Rhinelander Skatepark Project. With its residential setting, rotating themes, low admission price and strong community involvement, Sprecksel Slaughterhouse has the feel of a true Northwoods home haunt rather than a polished corporate attraction.
