Stevens Point Sculpture Park turns a 20-acre stretch of woods, wetlands, streamside terrain, and trail into an open-air art gallery where the exhibits are often as strange and unexpected as the landscape around them. Located at 901 N. Second Street in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, just off the Green Circle Trail, the free public park features 47 sculptures by local, regional, and national artists. The collection includes everything from massive abstract works and surreal creatures to sculptures made from repurposed industrial materials and pieces designed specifically for their outdoor surroundings. The park began with its first five sculptures in 2010 and has grown into one of central Wisconsin’s most distinctive places to experience public art.
The sculpture trail winds through a wooded landscape rather than a traditional museum setting, making the experience part art exhibit, part hike, and part scavenger hunt. Among the works visitors can encounter are Roger M. Skrzeczkoski Sr.’s “Tniop,” constructed from old city snowblower parts, a downtown tree grate, and a police car; Tim Curtis’ towering “Aurora III”; and Scott Froschauer’s “The Word on the Street.” The park is connected to the Green Circle Trail and offers a genuinely unusual Stevens Point attraction for anyone looking for something beyond conventional museums and galleries. It is free to visit, dogs are welcome on a leash, and the outdoor setting makes the sculpture park worth experiencing in different seasons, including winter when the trails can be explored on skis.
