Wade House

Built in the mid-1800s as a stagecoach stop along Wisconsin’s early travel routes, the Wade House Historic Site is a beautifully preserved glimpse into the state’s frontier past. But beyond its antique furnishings, creaking floorboards, and stories of stagecoach travelers, some believe the old inn still holds onto the presence of those who once passed through its doors. Once operated by Sylvanus Wade and his family, the Wade House is said to be haunted by a gentle but unsettling spirit that continues to linger among the rooms where guests once ate, slept, and shared stories.

Visitors and former staff have reported hearing muffled voices, footsteps moving through upstairs bedrooms, rustling sounds, and even the strange sensation of being touched by something unseen. Some believe the presence may belong to a member of the Wade family or perhaps a traveler who never truly left the old stagecoach inn.
