55 years ago on September 6, 1962, as the Russian Sputnik IV satellite entered the atmosphere and broke up over the Midwest, a 20-pound chunk crashed in the middle of the street in Manitowoc. The “Wacky Tacky” annual Sputnikfest commemorates this momentous event with family fun, food, music, games, the Ms. Space Debris Pageant, Cosmic Costume Contest, a dramatic re-enactment of the 1962 events (involving too much vodka) and much more.
